INDEX UNIT
The Index Unit is used to set the timing throughout the machine. It is used in conjunction with the timing handle which is fitted over the hand shaft at the bottom right of the machine.
In order to not have a dangerous object rotating on the outside of the machine the pointer is designed to stay still and the smooth index disc rotates behind it.
This index shows 26 points as used on our 39 point machine. The engraving and gearing would be different for a 30 point machine.
